Summary

The cropmarks of probable medieval to post medieval field boundaries possibly overlying a Roman road, as well as a section of possible Roman road or trackway, are visible on aerial photographs. The general layout of the fields is depicted on the Tithe Map of 1840, although it remains a possibility that some of the boundaries in use during the medieval to post medieval period are in fact Roman in origin or follow a similar alignment to those constructed during the Roman period.

Map

October 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of probable medieval to post medieval field boundaries possibly overlying a Roman road, as well as a section of possible Roman road or trackway, are visible on aerial photographs (S1)-(S4).
The site is centred on TG 1719 1915. The general layout of the fields is depicted on the Tithe Map of 1840 (S5), although it remains a possibility that some of the boundaries in use during the medieval to post medieval period are in fact Roman in origin or follow a similar alignment to those constructed during the Roman period, as there is a stretch of possible road or trackway to the south, curving to the northeast from TG 1721 1883 to TG 1717 1906 that does not correspond with the later field boundaries.
It is also possible that this feature relates to a post medieval or modern trackway, as it appears to lead from a probable field entrance.
