Map

October 2009. Norfolk NMP.
A series of linear ditches are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1), centred on TG 1684 1732. Some of these features may be geological, rather than archaeological in origin.
It is possible that more than one phase of features is visible on this site, as the longest linear ditch, running for 251m north northeast-south southwest between TG 1690 1748 and TG 1682 1723 appears to cut at least one ditch which is perpendicular to it, at TG 1683 1728.
At least one possible enclosure is visible at TG 1679 1724. It is only possible to see three sides of this proposed enclosure measuring internally 20m by at least 13m, defined by a ditch up to 2m in width. There may be an entrance at TG 1691 1713, although this may just be due to masking of the archaeology.
A second possible irregular enclosure is visible centred on TG 1690 1714. It appears to be sub-oval in plan, and measures approximately 72m by 23m internally. A possible entrance is visible at TG 1691 1713, although this is not certain. This feature is less certain, and may be the result of underlying geology, rather than archaeology.
If these features are archaeological, it seems likely that they are medieval to post medieval in origin, as, although they are not depicted on the historic maps, the longest linear feature runs parallel to a field division depicted on the Felthorpe Tithe Map of 1840 (S2), and may be contemporary with it.
