Summary

Fragmentary linear features are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs on land to the east of Park Farm, Stratton Strawless. They appear to be continuations of field boundaries clearly visible on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map, and thus have been tentatively dated to the medieval to post medieval period. A possible trackway consisting of two parallel linear ditches, and four further curvilinear ditch features may also date to this period, although they may also relate to geological features, rather than archaeological activity.

Map

November 2009. Norfolk NMP.
Fragmentary linear features are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2) on land to the east of Park Farm, Stratton Strawless. They are centred on TG 1897 1994, and appear to be continuations of field boundaries clearly visible on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map (S3), and thus have been tentatively dated to the medieval to post medieval period.
A possible trackway may be visible to the north of the field boundaries, stretching for at least 47m from TG 1893 2001 to TG 1894 1996. It consists of two north-south ditches, approximately 2.6m apart, but is rather faint and difficult to be certain of, as it is only visible on one set of photographs (S1).
Four curvilinear features were also visible on one set of photographs only (S1). The three to the east, centred on TG 1907 1996, may relate to geological features, as they share the same alignment as each other and are rather ephemeral. The fourth curvilinear ditch appears to cross the possible field boundary at TG 1900 1995, but its relationship with this feature is not clear.
