Full Description
Before October 2008. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of small-scale excavation to repair a sewer main.
Disarticulated human bones including fragments of up to three adult skulls, long bones, mandibles, vertebrae and phalanges were discovered, along with possible coffin remains. These remains are from previously disturbed burials from a former cemetery shown on historic maps and thought to have medieval origins. It is not clear whether this cemetery is part of the former friary located a short distance to the west (NHER 5477) or associated with St James' chapel (NHER 5484) just to the north.
See short report (S1) for further details.
S. Howard (NLA), 27 November 2009, amended A. Cattermole (King's Lynn UAD), 8 May 2019.
