Full Description
November 2009. Norfolk NMP.
Two parallel ditches with a bank between are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2) within what is currently Horsford Woods plantation.
The parallel ditches and bank between stretch for 57m southeast-northwest, from TG 1959 1857 to TG 1953 1859 before turning and continuing for 17m south-north as far as TG 1953 1861.
These earthworks were clearly visible before the current plantation was in existence, and may relate to the postulated medieval to post medieval warren (NHER 52410, 52423), as they share an alignment with the edge of the possible enclosure.
They may, however, be associated with the World War Two activity (NHER 52425 and 52438) to the north and west, although the ditches do not appear to be as freshly dug as the possible practice trenches to the north on the same photograph.
By 1969 these earthworks are no longer visible under scrub and young plantation (S2).
E. Bales (NMP), November 2009.
