NHER 52023 (Cropmark and Earthwork record) - Earthworks of post medieval boundaries

The earthworks of post medieval boundaries are visible on aerial photographs (S1) within the grounds of Keswick Hall (NHER 9760). The site is centred on TG 2078 0385. These earthworks are likely to relate to former layouts and divisions within the park. Earthworks relating to boundaries marked on the 1847 Keswick Tithe map (S2) were not included in the mapping. A low mound formerly identified at this site on aerial photographs (S3) and recorded within the National Monuments Record (NMR TG 20 SW 107), was not identified on the aerial photographs. A number of seemingly natural hummocks are visible, but nothing of obvious archaeological origin. The western earthworks (TG 2070 0387) consist of a bank and ditch, both 1.5-2m wide and visible for approximately 25m, although tree cover and shadows may obscure the full extent of the earthworks. The eastern earthwork (TG 2088 0383) consists of a bank, 1.5m and 25m long.
