NHER 53425 (Monument record) - Cropmarks of medieval to post medieval field boundaries, enclosures, drainage ditches and a possible moat, formerly NHER 35490 and 13061

Cropmarks of medieval to post medieval field boundaries, enclosures, drainage ditches and a possible moat, are visible on aerial photographs (S1)-(S8) on land to the west of Hingham Road, Little Ellingham. Several features within this area have been formerly recorded as NHER 35490 and 13061.
These include cropmarks of amorphous enclosures, centred on TM 0008 0006, joining in adjacent fields to boundaries shown on 6 inch Ordnance Survey map (S9).
An undated curvilinear feature is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs in the field centred on TM 0030 9992. This linear feature appears to feed into a modern drainage ditch.
A possible moat is visible, centred on TM 0048 9993. This feature measures 27m by 16m internally, with two ditches measuring up to 2.8m in width visible on the northern and western sides. A second possible moat, approximately 50m to the south, is depicted on the tithe map of the area, and has therefore not been mapped. The majority of features are aligned parallel to drainage ditches or field boundaries visible on the tithe map of the area (S10), and it seems likely therefore that they date to the medieval to post medieval period.
