Map

December 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a large ring ditch, probably the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow are visible on aerial photographs on a slight promontory of higher land in Howe (S1). The site is centred on TG 2745 0043. The monument forms part of a linear Bronze Age barrow cemetery (NHER 52421), see this record for a wider discussion of the group. The ring ditch is slightly irregular in plan and is 44m in diameter with a ditch approximately 2m wide. A series of elongated and irregular shaped pits, 2-4m across are visible within the area of the ring ditch and may relate to burials or deposits within the barrow. Although it is feasible that they relate to naturally occurring geological pit-like deposits, the cropmarks do seem quite well defined and are comparable with those of the surrounding ditch. No traces of an earthwork or cropmark internal mound were detected on the aerial photographs.
