Map

November 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a possible road and/or boundary of either Roman or medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs to the south of Arminghall village (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 2519 0401. This possible route or boundary is suggested by the cropmarks by intermittent ditch and parched linear sections (S1-S2), potentially indicating a former bank or compacted or metalled surface. The eastern part of the boundary follows the alignment of the parish boundary line between Caistor St Edmund and Bixley, approximately 25m to the north. A possible continuation of this linear may be visible to the southeast, following on from the parish boundary alignment (NHER 53213). Although it is very uncertain, it is possible that this represents a continuation of a possible Roman road recorded from cropmarks to the southwest (NHER 9862), which has a comparably irregular and sinuous course, see record for details. It is possible that both of these sets of boundaries and/roads relate to medieval to post medieval features, however no corresponding field boundary is marked along the route is depicted on the 1840 Caistor St Edmund Tithe map (S3).
