The cropmarks of a possible ring ditch are visible on aerial photographs (S1) to the south of the medieval moated site of Blackford Hall (NHER 9908) are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S5). The possible ring ditch is centred on TG 2521 0164 and measures 16m in diameter. While it is possible that this relates to a Bronze Age round barrow, given the location and need for drainage, it is also feasible that it may relate to a medieval to post medieval temporary agricultural structure, such as a stack stand.
S. Horlock (NMP), 03 November 2009.
