Full Description
March 2010. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of works to widen Beacon Hill Road, close to the site of St Ethelbert's church (NHER 1755).
Four adult burials and one infant burial of medieval or post-medieval date were observed. The burials were orientated west-east in the Christian tradition. Large coffin nails were recovered from one of the adult burials indicating that the individual had been buried in a wooden coffin.
See report (S1) for further details. The results of this work are also summarised in (S2).
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2011.273).
