Map

March 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The earthworks of road of at least post medieval date, with possible earlier origins, and an associated trackway, are visible on aerial photographs on Thorpe Great Heath (S1-S4). The site is centred on TL 8923 8915. The road, which runs across alongside High House, or Four Mile House as named on Faden, and up past the Home Mere, is marked on Faden’s map of 1797 (S5) and links West Wretham and Thetford. A braided trackway to the immediate east of this road is marked as a trackway on the Ordnance Survey first edition (S6). It seems likely that both of these routes were originally associated with the movement of stock and could represent potentially early features in the landscape. See NHER 50426 for medieval to post medieval enclosures surrounding High House.
