Summary

The cropmarks of possible undated ditches and former field boundaries are visible on aerial photographs to the north of Kilverstone Hall. The site consists of a series of fragmentary ditches, some of which may be former field boundaries. Finds in the area include Iron Age and Roman coin (NHER 37327 & 52829) and although these features are undated, it is possible that some of the ditches are Iron Age to Roman in date.

The cropmarks of possible undated ditches and former field boundaries are visible on aerial photographs to the north of Kilverstone Hall are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). The site is centred on TL 8933 8474 and consists of a series of fragmentary ditches, some of which may be former field boundaries. However it must be noted that the geological background in this area produces linear and rectilinear cropmarks. Whilst the features mapped would appear to be distinct from these natural cropmarks, it was hard to be completely certain. A possible rectilinear enclosure in the area of TL 8952 8471 (S1) was omitted from the mapping due to a suspicion that it was non-archaeological in nature. Finds in the area include Iron Age and Roman coin (NHER 37327 & 52829) and although these features are undated, it is possible that some of the ditches are Iron Age to Roman in date.
