Summary

The possible earthworks of boundaries and enclosures of uncertain date and significance are visible on aerial photographs of an area of former heathland in Wretham. This site consists of a series of possible ditches, potentially relating to enclosures, ditches boundaries and a possible trackway, that are faintly visible within the heathland vegetation. These possible earthworks have been tentatively identified on a laser copy of a single vertical aerial photograph from 1923, which is quite badly scratched and with poor tonal contrast; consequently all of the possible archaeological features identified are of uncertain significance.

The possible earthworks of boundaries and enclosures of uncertain date and significance are visible on aerial photographs on an area of former heathland in Wretham (S1). The site is centred on TL 8962 8869. This site consists of a series of possible ditches, potentially relating to enclosures, ditches boundaries and a possible trackway, that are faintly visible within the heathland vegetation. These possible earthworks have been tentatively identified on a laser copy of a single vertical aerial photograph from 1923 (S1), which is quite badly scratched and with poor tonal contrast, subsequently all of the possible archaeological features identified are of uncertain significance. It is also hard, given the quality of the photograph, the lack of a stereo pair or other photography dating to that period, to be certain how many of these possible earthworks relate to relatively recent activity or tracks across the heath. Assuming that some of these features are archaeological, the date of ditches is also uncertain. Some may be medieval to post medieval in date, similar to NHER 50426 to the west, especially those features running parallel to the although other elements could feasibly be earlier.
