Summary

Fieldwalking as part of the Caistor Research Project recovered undatable prehistoric and Mesolithic/Early Neolithic worked flints; Roman, medieval, medieval/post-medieval and post-medieval pottery; a medieval floor tile; medieval/post-medieval bricks and post-medieval clay tobacco pipe stems.

1st and 7th April 2009. Systematic fieldwalking. Caistor Research Project (CRP 8 Field 25).
10 undatable prehistoric flint flakes, 1 retouched flake and 1 end scraper.
1 Mesolithic/Early Neolithic flint blade and 1 blade-like flake (both with abraded platform edges).
8 Roman pottery sherds (including greyware and Oxfordshire mortarium).
2 medieval pottery sherds (?glazed) and 1 glazed floor tile (very worn).
4 medieval/post-medieval pottery sherds (LMT) and 2 bricks.
2 ?medieval/post-medieval pottery sherds (?LMT) and 2 bricks.
246 post-medieval pottery sherds (most late post-medieval with some stoneware and Glazed Red Earthenware) and 81 clay tobacco pipe fragments (one engraved 'IIV' and another stamped J.C.TAYLOR.[ and ]MOUTH).
Recent and undatable ceramic building material, undatable and recent iron objects, recent glass, bone fragments and pieces of stone (including calcinated flints were not listed.
