The site of World War Two accommodation and training within the grounds of Morton Hall is visible on aerial photographs (S1-S4). This camp is located approximately 1.5 km from Attlebridge Airfield (NHER 3063), although it is not clear whether the two sites are associated. The site is centred on TG 1247 1561 and consists of several areas of huts and military accommodation buildings, some of which are camouflaged within the edges of the woodland around the Hall, and a number of small areas of training features, such as weapons pits and practice trenches.
Two main areas of structures were identified, one consisting of nissen-type huts and larger flat roofed rectangular structures centred on TG 1261 1567, which are partially located under tree cover, and another area of former structures and possibly tents, constructed and removed in-between April 1945 and March 1946 (S2-S3), were centred on TG 1241 1559. A further two structures of probable military origin are located to the immediate west of the Hall. A small fenced or walled rectangular structure was located to the south of one of the areas of huts at TG 1247 1561 (S2). This has been removed by March 1946 (S3). The function of this is unknown, but assumed to be military.
A slit trench was been dug around the western edge of the woodland belt surrounding the walled garden. A dispersed group of weapons pits and short practice trenches are also located to the south of the park. Aerial photography from 1951 (S4) taken after the clearing of Oak Plantation reveals evidence of pits, which may also relate to military training within the woods also.
