Map

April 2010. Norfolk NMP.
A bank feature, along with two linear ditches, are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1-S4) on land to the west of Buxton Road, Old Catton.
The bank runs roughly north-south from TG 2355 1348 to TG 2360 1304, and is on a similar alignment to the possible Roman road (NHER 52126) recorded 775m to the east. A Roman cosmetic mortar and Late Saxon hooked tag were found in the vicinity (NHER 41110).
It is possible, however, that these features are medieval to post medieval in date, as they appear to correspond largely with field boundaries on the Tithe Map (S5).
E. Bales (NMP), April 2010.

September 2012-March 2013. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of part of large proposed development area.
This survey identified three linear anomalies, all of which correspond with the cropmark features recorded at this location. These include a vague, discontinuous north-north-west to south-south-east aligned response that appears to coincide with the bank feature, which lies on the former line of the Catton/Spixworth parish boundary. It should be noted that this feature also appears to coincide with the probable line of a former road or track marked on Faden’s map of 1797 (S6). It is also possible that a band of flint, brick and pottery recorded as having been found to the east of this position (NHER 19016) has been incorrectly located, and actually also coincided with the line of this bank feature (and the former road).
See report (S7) and NHER 66875 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 1 May 2023.

April 2026. HER Enhancement: Forestry Commission Project K.
The bank feature is visible as a low earthwork on visualised lidar data from a survey flown in 2021 (S8). The bank feature is also seen well as cropmark on multiple years of Google Earth imagery. Particularly on the 2006 layer (S9).
