Summary

A pattern of rectilinear ditches, visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs, are of uncertain date and function. They probably represent field boundaries, of pre-Inclosure date, as their alignment is completely at odds with that of the modern field pattern. At the same time, a considerable number of cropmarks of geological and recent agricultural origin are also visible in this area, and the archaeological significance of the mapped features is not entirely certain.

Map

May 2010. Norfolk NMP.
A pattern of rectilinear ditches is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S5), centred at 1264 0545. They are of uncertain date and function. They probably represent field boundaries, of pre-Inclosure date, as their alignment is completely at odds with that of the modern field pattern. They could be contemporary with ditches following a similar alignment, apparent at other sites such as NHER 53489 approximately 540m to the northwest. At the same time, a considerable number of cropmarks of geological and recent agricultural origin are also visible in this area, and the archaeological significance of the mapped features is not entirely certain.
