Full Description
May 2010. Norfolk NMP.
A possible rectangular enclosure and undated linear ditches are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1-S2) on land to the east of Spixworth Hall, centred on TG 2413 1529.
The possible rectangular enclosure is centred on TG 2415 1542, and measures 44m by 22m.
A second possible enclosure may be visible centred on TG 2400 1535. The enclosure measures at least 19m by 20m and consists of two curvilinear ditches which are rather blurred and only visible on one photograph (S2), but may in fact represent a geological feature.
A possible curvilinear trackway is also visible stretching from TG 2407 1520 to TG 2420 1521. It consists of two parallel ditches approximately 6.2m apart.
To the west of the field a north-south ditch is visible, which is depicted as a field boundary on the tithe map (S3), although has been recorded as a possible road (NHER 34202).
There are also many geological features visible in the area, which have not been mapped, although it is possible that some of them may represent archaeological pit features.
E. Bales (NMP), May 2010.
