Summary

The cropmarks of a polygonal or sub-square enclosure of possible later prehistoric or Roman date are visible on aerial photographs to the east of High Common Cottage. The polygonal or sub-square enclosure and traces of a narrow outer ditch are visible on the northeastern corner, which appears to be surrounding a probable entrance. The morphology of the enclosure could suggest a later prehistoric or Roman date. Finds of a Neolithic, Iron Age and Roman date have been found within the general vicinity (NHER 7818, 8872, 9238, 25966 & 28859). To the immediate west of the enclosure are fragmentary ditches, which may relate to part of a field system. The date of these ditches is uncertain, although a later prehistoric date is likely, and they likely to relate to a different phase of activity to the enclosure as there is no obvious shared alignment.

The cropmarks of a polygonal or sub-square enclosure of possible later prehistoric or Roman date are visible on aerial photographs to the east of High Common Cottage, Honingham (S1-S3). The site is centred on TG 1007 1028. The polygonal or sub-square enclosure is approximately 120m by 125m. Traces of a narrow outer ditch are visible on the northeastern corner (S2), which appears to be surrounding a probable entrance. The morphology of the enclosure could suggest a later prehistoric or Roman date. Finds of a Neolithic, Iron Age and Roman date have been found within the general vicinity (NHER 7818, 8872, 9238, 25966 & 28859). Additional external ditches are also visible in this area (S1-S2). To the immediate west of the enclosure are fragmentary ditches (S1-S2), which may relate to part of a field system, although it must be noted that the cropmarks were somewhat dubious in this area on (S1) and were only mapped as they appeared to be showing in a similar manner to the enclosure. The date of these ditches is uncertain, although a later prehistoric date is likely, and they likely to relate to a different phase of activity to the enclosure as there is no obvious shared alignment.
