Summary

Map

June 2010. Norfolk NMP.
Lines of hut-like structures visible on aerial photographs (S1)-(S3) were almost certainly World War Two surface air raid shelters. Centred at TG 2045 0895, they surrounded on three sides what Banger (2003, (S4)) calls the Municipal School (see NHER 53636), which later became Bowthorpe Comprehensive School (see NHER 17399). The shelters were presumably provided for the protection of pupils and staff. They have been mapped only by extent.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 12 June 2010.
