Full Description
June 2010. Norfolk NMP.
A rectilinear pattern of ditches of uncertain date and origin is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 1398 0702. The cropmarks may represent field boundaries and perhaps part of an enclosure. If genuine, they are likely to pre-date a field boundary depicted here on Great Melton Enclosure Map of 1826 (S3), which is orientated at a slight angle to the cropmarks; the field boundary is also visible as a cropmark but has not been mapped by NMP. The archaeological significance of the cropmarks, however, is uncertain, and they may represent land drains or similar agricultural features; the three short parallel ditches at TG 1397 0690 in particular look like drainage.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 20 June 2010.
