Summary

The cropmarks of ditches of unknown date, which probably represent the remains of more than one phase of former field boundaries, are visible on aerial photographs to the south of Lord’s Hills, Easton. Map

June 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of ditches of unknown date, which probably represent the remains of more than one phase of former field boundaries, are visible on aerial photographs (S1) to the south of Lord’s Hills, Easton. The site is centred on TG 1480 1166. Cropmarks of similarly fragmentary ditches in the area have been interpreted as being of possible later prehistoric to Roman date, see NHER 36414 & 51578-9. It must be noted that linear and rectilinear cropmarks of probable geological origin were also visible on the aerial photographs (S1) and it may be that other archaeological features are present that were not detected due to being obscured by or confused with natural cropmarks. It is also possible that some of the features mapped as ditches could feasibly also be of geological origin, although the regularity and coherency of the apparent plan.
