Full Description
June 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of fragmentary field boundaries and trackways of unknown date are visible on aerial photographs to either side of Honingham Lane, Ringland (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 1276 1351 and consists of fragmentary field boundaries and trackways, representing more than one phase of activity, the dates of which are unknown. Finds in the area include prehistoric lithics and a late Saxon or medieval object (NHER 18054, 20013 & 51122). However it is possible that some of the ditches may relate to post medieval or medieval to post medieval date field boundaries that pre-date those depicted on the 1841 Ringland Tithe map (S3), in particular those that run broadly perpendicular to the Honingham Lane. It must be noted that the ditches within the eastern extremity of the site were mapped without sufficient control points to establish a completely accurate positioning, therefore some degree of inaccuracy must be expected.

November 2021-March 2022. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable.
This survey identified no evidence for sub-surface remains associated with the short, fragmentary cropmarks that fell within the area examined.
Information from draft report. See NHER 66328 for further details.

February-June 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable.
One of the trenches coincided with one of the short, fragmentary cropmarks mapped at TG 1263 1326. No surviving sub-surface remains were identified.
Information from draft report. See NHER 66328 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 19 February 2025.
