Summary

Undated linear ditches and pit-like feature are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. Some of the ditches may be of relatively late, post medieval date, but not all are necessarily contemporary with each other. The pit-like marks could be of geological origin, but might equally relate to the Late Neolithic to Bronze Age linear barrow cemetery (NHER 52302) they overlap; some of the ring ditches making up the cemetery seem to contain pit-like features, perhaps graves.

Full Description

June 2010. Norfolk NMP.
Undated linear ditches and pit-like feature are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S6), centred at TG 2383 0586. Some of the ditches may be of relatively late, post medieval date (compare the field pattern on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6 inch map (S7), for example), but not all are necessarily contemporary with each other. The pit-like marks could be of geological origin, but might equally relate to the Late Neolithic to Bronze Age linear barrow cemetery (NHER 52302) they overlap; some of the ring ditches making up the cemetery seem to contain pit-like features, perhaps graves, and these additional pits might have held votive or funerary deposits.
