Map

July 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The site of large group of covered World War Two industrial air raid shelters for Gothic Works (NHER 41652) on Hardy Road, Norwich, is visible on aerial photographs (S1-S3). The site is centred on TG 2435 0771. These shelters are likely to have been provided for the works of the adjacent engineering works. The shelters appeared to be covered with a mixture of earth and rubbish and were not mapped individually (an extent of area was used to define their extent), although one was visible uncovered and was mapped as an individual structure. Another hut to the east of the site was not of certain military origin. To the west of the site is another possible surface shelter, although it had a similar appearance to Home Guard Shelters and Air Raid Precautions (ARP) wardens’ posts identified and it is possible that it may relate to one of those functions.
