Full Description
December 2009. Norfolk NMP.
A possible ring ditch is visible as a crop- or vegetation mark on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 2113 0550. It is not entirely convincing as an archaeological feature, being rather misshapen for a ring ditch, and because it is not visible on any of the other consulted aerial photographs. However, a second, more convincing ring ditch is visible 160m to the southwest (NHER 12819), and the example described here may correspond with a second ring ditch listed by Lawson along with this more convincing example (although there are plenty of other circular and sub-circular marks visible in the same area). If genuine, the ring ditch seems likely to represent the site of a Bronze Age round barrow, although other interpretations cannot be ruled out.
The ring ditch is only partially visible but appears to be oval in plan. It measures at least 15m long and 13m wide.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 30 December 2009.
