Summary

A probable World War Two civil defence and/or military site is visible as a group of buildings, structures and large numbers of vehicles on aerial photographs. Although the northern part of the site appears to have been in use as a sports field in the earlier part of the war, the build-up of vehicles between 1942 and 1945 suggests some sort of significant use, presumably as some sort of transport site. Buildings and structures on the southern part of the site include some that may be pre-war, and some which may have been associated with the adjacent sports fields, but also some substantial structures built during the war, again suggesting a site of some significance. The site may be associated with the probable civil defence control centre for Norwich located only 60m down Hall Road to the south (NHER 53280), which was also constructed in this period.
