Summary

Probable World War Two below-ground air raid shelters and signs of possible military activity are evident on aerial photographs as structures and ‘earthworks’ (areas of disturbed ground) on aerial photographs. The air raid shelters, visible as the (sealed?) ground-level entrances or ventilation shafts, are similar to those identified at other schools in Norwich. The disturbed ground extends over much of the ground behind (to the southwest) of the school; its precise cause is uncertain, but military or civil defence training is a possibility, although the possibility that it relates simply to the construction of the shelters (and perhaps the school and surrounding housing) cannot be ruled out.
