Full Description
July 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The site of a possible ring ditch, possibly relating to a tree ring, may be visible as a vegetation mark in the grass to the immediate west of Carrow Priory, Norwich (NHER 296) is visible on aerial photographs (S1-S3). The site, which is centred on TG 2410 0742, consists of a broad circular vegetation mark. The archaeological significance of this feature is extremely uncertain and may well relate to a fungus ring – as many others are visible within the field. However the fact that it is visible across several years and is rather strong and substantial compared to the other fungus rings. It is feasible that it relates to former tree ring or feature associated with the nearby Benedictine site.
