NHER 52334 (Cropmark and Earthwork record) - Site of probable late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age barrow

The cropmarks relating to a probable late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age barrow with two concentric ring ditches are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S3). The site is centred on TG 2422 0619. This ring ditch was previously recorded under NHER 9605 - the location of numerous prehistoric, Neolithic and early Bronze Age worked flints and tools. Another barrow also consisting of concentric ring ditches and dated by excavation to the late Neolithic to early Bronze Age is located to the immediate west (NHER 9592) and both monuments are located approximately 215m to the northeast from the major henge monument at Arminghall (NHER 6100).
The site consists of two concentric ring ditches, the outer one being less regular and circular than the inner. Both ring ditches appeared to have a narrow break in the ditch, although this could not be established for certain. It is feasible that the apparent gap is the result of modern agricultural marks and tramlines causing the appearance of a causeway in the ditches. The break in the ditches looks the most genuine in 1986 (S2) and was mapped as such. Some possible internal features, most significantly an additional inner ring ditch, may be visible on the aerial photographs, but was felt certain enough to warrant mapping.
