Map

July 2010. Aerial photography.
Extensive multi-period cropmarks are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2) in the field to the east of Suffield church. A linear feature can be seen running west-east across the field. This follows the line of road marked on Faden's map (S3). To the north of this probable road are a series of parallel linear features running approximately north-south, perpendicular to the line of the road. These are likely to be tofts alongside the road, and probably date from the medieval period. Although the road is visible on Faden's map, there are no signs of settlement along this road in 1797. By the early 19th century, the road is no longer marked on maps (S4), but a field boundary remains.
A. Cattermole (NLA), 20 July 2010.
