Summary

The site of World War Two searchlight battery is visible on aerial photographs alongside the River Wensum at Transport Plantation, Costessey. The site consists of a central searchlight emplacement and associated structures and defences, including a gun emplacement and spigot mortar emplacement. In 1944 two clusters of huts are visible, but these have been removed by March 1945.

The site of World War Two searchlight battery is visible on aerial photographs alongside the River Wensum at Transport Plantation, Costessey (S1-S4). The site is centred on TG 1681 1227. The site consists of a central searchlight emplacement and associated structures and defences, including a gun emplacement and spigot mortar emplacement. In 1944 (S1) two clusters of huts are visible, but these have been removed by March 1945 (S2), with only some rectangular bases remaining by 1947 (S3).
