Map

July 2010. Norfolk NMP.
Several linear ditches and possible pits are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1), on land to the north of Bowthorpe Hall Road, Norwich.
The features are centred on TG 1813 0944, and at least one of the ditches is on the same alignment as a projected Roman road (NMR Linear 401), running from TG 1815 0942 to TG 1827 0940. However, it is unclear whether this record refers to the projected Roman road 270m to the north (NHER 5244). There are also several ditches visible at right-angles to this ditch feature, as well as a number of pits in the area.
At least three of the ditches and one possible pit feature correspond with those recorded during an archaeological evaluation of the area (S2) (NHER 33534), but unfortunately no datable finds were recovered.
E. Bales (NMP), 20 July 2010.
