Map

August 2010. Norfolk NMP.
Undated ditches and a fragment of possible Roman road are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1-S2) on land to the south of Long Lane, Bawburgh.
The cropmarks are centred on TG 1620 0994. To the north, at least three parallel ditches are visible, up to 7m apart, and these may be related to the possible Roman road NHER 15768 (and possibly NHER 54443). They coincide, however, with an area of woodland depicted on the 2nd edition Ordnance Survey map (S3), and may relate to a later field boundary.
To the south of the area, a very faint and fragmentary enclosure may be visible, centred on TG 1621 0992. Its greatest external dimensions are approximately 23m by at least 26m, although it is possible that one or more of these fragmentary ditches relates to underlying geology.
E. Bales (NMP), 11 August 2010.

November/December 2014. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The 37 trenches excavated in this field identified a number of ditches that appear to correspond with the main east-to-west aligned cropmarks mapped at this location. Unfortunately these were unremarkable features that produced no dating evidence so the nature of these cropmarks remains uncertain, although the cartographic evidence suggest a post-Roman date is perhaps the more likely.
See NHER 61954 and report (S4) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 29 March 2019.
