Summary

The cropmarks of a possible enclosure and associated ditches of potential Roman date, are visible on aerial photographs to the west of the Arminghall Wood. Significant amounts of Roman date material have been recovered from the general vicinity of these cropmarks (NHER 9581, 9812,13350, 21783, 21951 & 37001) suggesting at least two main phases of activity in this area. The majority of the cropmarks recorded, if archaeological, are likely to relate to be Roman in date.

Map

March 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a possible enclosure and associated ditches of potential Roman date, are visible on aerial photographs to the west of the Arminghall Wood (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 2451 0461. The main possible component of the site is a rectangular enclosure at TG 2456 0456, 35m by at least 45m (S2). Although it must be stated that similarly rectilinear ditch-like cropmarks were omitted from the mapping in this area due them appearing to be of geological origin. Some doubt must also remain over the archaeological origin of the features retained with the mapping. Significant amounts of Roman date material have been recovered from the general vicinity of these cropmarks (NHER 9581, 9812,13350, 21783, 21951 & 37001) suggesting at least two main phases of activity in this area. The majority of the cropmarks recorded are likely to relate to be Roman in date.
