Summary

The earthworks and structural remains of World War Two earthen-covered semi-sunken and underground air raid shelters are visible on aerial photographs within the grounds of Hellesdon Community Hospital (NHER 63799). The shelters consist of a combination of earthen-covered and semi-sunken shelters, within the northwestern part of the site and underground shelters with steep entrances within the central part of the site. At least one surface shelter may have been present.

The earthworks and structural remains of World War Two earthen-covered semi-sunken and underground air raid shelters are visible on aerial photographs within the grounds of Hellesdon Community Hospital (S1). The site is centred on TG 1995 1184. The shelters consist of a combination of earthen-covered and semi-sunken shelters, within the northwestern part of the site and underground shelters with steep entrances within the central part of the site. At least one surface shelter may have been present. Other possible surface shelters may be visible on the aerial photographs, but were not mapped as it was hard to distinguish these from temporary buildings of other types.
