Full Description
June 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of fragmentary ditches and former field boundaries of unknown date are visible on aerial photographs to the east of Field Farm, Weston Longville (S1). The site is centred on TG 1210 1483. The site consists of fragmentary ditches and former field boundaries running either parallel or perpendicular to one another. These ditches are located within the area of a group of previously recorded cropmarks (NHER 50608) which were interpreted as being of probable post medieval date due to their relationship with features on historic maps. It is therefore likely that these additional ditches are earlier in date. The cropmarks have a shared alignment with a possible square enclosure to the north (NHER 50607). This enclosure was tentatively interpreted as being Iron Age to Roman in date, although this is uncertain.

November 2020-March 2021. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Norwich Western Link.
Although all of the cropmarks in this group fell within the relatively large area examined at this location no potentially corresponding anomalies were identified.
See report (S2) and NHER 66325 for further details.

November 2021-March 2022. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable.
One of the areas examined coincided with several cropmarks recorded in the vicinity of TG 1215 1484. There was no evidence for associated sub-surface remains.
Information from draft report. See NHER 66325 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 4 September 2023.
February-June 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable.
Three of the trenches excavated coincided with the cropmarks recorded in the vicinity of TG 1215 1484. There was again no evidence for surviving sub-surface remains.
Information from draft report. See NHER 66325 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 4 September 2023.
May-July 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Norwich Western Link.
Although the trenches excavated at this location coincided with a number of the cropmarks in this group no corresponding sub-surface remains were identified.
See report (S3) and NHER 66325 for further details.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 24 February 2025.
