Summary

A World War Two memorial dedicated to the people who died as prisoners of war or civilian internees in Japanese camps from 1941 to 1945. The memorial is in the form of a clock tower made of limestone. It was constructed in 1958. The monument was renovated in 2004.

Location: Far East Prisoner of War, War Memorial, Marine Parade, Great Yarmouth
Type: Clock Tower
Description: The memorial is in the form of a clock tower made of limestone. The tower is a plain square-plan pillar placed on top of a square stone base. The four faces of the pillar each hold a circular brass relief showing a map of South East Asia near the bottom of the pillar and a bronze clock face near the top. The inscriptions are placed on a bronze plaque on the west face of the base, with an plaque on the east face holding construction information.
