Summary

The cropmarks of a trackway and boundaries are visible on aerial photographs to the north of the Harford Park and Ride site. Some of these cropmarks were previously recorded under NHER 16062. The site consists of a intermittent trackway and fragmentary field boundaries, which follow an extremely similar alignment to a group of Iron Age fields excavated to south (NHER 52141), although it is not clear whether these form an extension of the same phase of boundaries, especially as some of the boundaries marked on the 1847 Keswick Tithe map also follow this orientation. It is therefore possible that this trackway and fields form part of a medieval to post medieval layout that pre-dates the tithe map pattern. For other fragmentary and undated field boundaries in this area see NHER 52154.

March 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a trackway and boundaries are visible on aerial photographs to the north of the Harford Park and Ride site (S1-S5). Some of these cropmarks were previously recorded under NHER 16062. The site, which is centred on TG 2166 0444, consists of an intermittent trackway and fragmentary field boundaries, which follow an extremely similar alignment to a group of Iron Age fields excavated to south (NHER 52141), although it is not clear whether these form an extension of the same phase of boundaries, especially as some of the boundaries marked on the 1847 Keswick Tithe map (S6) also follow this orientation. It is therefore possible that this trackway and fields form part of a medieval to post medieval layout that pre-dates the tithe map pattern. For other fragmentary and undated field boundaries in this area see NHER 52154.
S. Horlock (NMP), 11 March 2009.

January 2015. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development area to west of Ipswich Road.
In most cases there was no evidence for surviving sub-surface remains associated with the cropmarks that fall within the area examined (although it should be noted that the site's magnetic susceptibility is recorded as being generally low).
The one exception was the southernmost of two parallel east-to-west aligned cropmarks at TG 2173 0432, which corresponds with one of several weakly-enhanced linear magnetic anomalies recorded at this location (the line of which is possibly continued by one of the cropmarks recorded as NHER 52154). These are though thought to be of probable natural origin.
See NHERs 66035 and 66036 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 10 September 2022.

October-November 2019. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development area to west of Ipswich Road.
Although a number of the trenches coincided with cropmarks in this group in most cases there was no evidence for associated sub-surface remains. The only possible exception was the easternmost of the two parallel cropmarks at TG 2183 0446, which was potentially associated with an undated ditch.
It is notable that none of the ditches observed had been identified by the preceding geophysical survey.
See report (S7) and NHER 66035 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 11 September 2022.

March 2020. Excavation.
Final phase of archaeological mitigation prior to development of site to west of Ipswich Road.
The area investigated coincided with the north-north-east to south-south-west aligned cropmark at TG 2175 0453. There was again no evidence for associated sub-surface remains.
See report (S8) and NHER 66035 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 12 September 2022.
