Full Description
March 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The vegetation marks of a possible building platform and boundary ditches of medieval to post medieval date may be on aerial photographs to the north of Watering Farm, Stoke Holy Cross (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 2450 0208. The possible building platform, 18m by 14m, is suggested by a sub-rectangular parched area, surrounded by narrow ditches, possibly indicating a compacted or slightly raised area associated with a former structure (S1). A series of ditches to the east, one of which is marked on the 1844 Stoke Holy Cross Tithe Map (S3), are likely to represent former paddocks and agricultural divisions. These features are potentially associated with the medieval settlement features recorded to the immediate southwest (NHER 9769), although they could merely relate to post medieval activity at Watering Farm.
