Map

October 2010. Norfolk NMP.
A soilmark of an intermittent undated linear bank is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S1) on land to the northwest of Gallows Hill, Thetford. The bank runs northwest-southeast for approximately 625m from TL 8578 8531 to TL 8600 8473. There are some Roman finds from the area (NHER 24853, 19193, 31807), and several linear features to the south east that have been dated to the Roman period (NHER 30258), as well as the significant Roman site at Fison Way (NHER 5853), sited approximately 600m away, which could suggest that this feature is Roman in date. However, there are also a number of medieval finds in the vicinity (NHER 24854 and 24855), and the bank appears to run roughly parallel to the Thetford to Croxton parish boundary, so it is also possible that it is medieval to post medieval in date.
E. Bales (NMP), 18 Oct 2010.
