Summary

Castle Rising Hall or The Mansion House was the residence of the Howard family when visiting Castle Rising and was constructed in at least three main phases. Following the residence of Queen Isabella at the Castle (NHER 3307) the buildings started to deteriorate and it is likely that at this time the owners of the estate would have built a more comfortable residence. The earliest reference to the building is a letter dated 1695 to Thomas Howard. The hall was used to house several evacuated families from London during World War II but fell into disrepair and was partially demolished in the 1940s.
