NHER 54511 (Monument record) - Possible medieval and post medieval drainage ditches

November 2010. Norfolk NMP.
Several linear earthwork ditches and banks that are likely to represent medieval to post medieval drainage features are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S6) on land to the south and east of Old Farm, Wretham.
They are centred on TL 9392 8989, and are likely to relate to drainage, as modern drains are visible in amongst the ditch features, on similar orientations.
The cropmarks of a possible enclosure (NHER 25357) noted within this area have been discounted, as they are not visible on the photographs below, and appear to be more recent in nature. Other similar ditches in the vicinity, to the north, east and west have been interpreted as recent drainage features. Cropmarks are visible extending to the north on the Google Earth images (S6), but have not been mapped due to the fact that this is outside the current NMP project area.
Medieval and post medieval pottery sherds were recovered from the south of the area (NHER 25357, 25373) and the north (NHER 25358), which also produced a small amount of Iron Age and Roman pottery.
