Summary

A school was constructed on this site in 1840, and it is likely that some elements of the present structure date from this period. However, it is clear that an extension or significant rebuilding took place around 1908. This building is now the Branch Library.

Map

June 2009. Building survey.
This early Victorian school was built in 1840 and the style of the Gothic window agrees with this date. However, there are some suggestions that it was rebuilt in 1908, which certainly fits with the lettering on the porch for the Boys' entrance. To the rear of the building are a series of offices, formerly earth closets with emptying hatches.
