Summary

The site of probable World War Two weapons pits is visible on aerial photographs to the north of Shadwell Park (NHER 29366).. The pits are arranged in two linear groups and appear to be reasonably fresh in 1946 suggesting that they do relate to military training activity. A small number of similar features were identified within Shadwell Park (NHER 54570) and appeared to relate to temporary military camps associated with Snarehill Airfield to the south (NHER 11746). Although it is also feasible that they relate to small scale quarrying or prospection activity and not military training.
