Summary

Metal-detecting between 2010 and 2019 recovered a dispersed Middle Saxon coin hoard. A total of 81 silver sceattas have so far been found, the nature and condition of which suggest the hoard was most likely concealed or lost about 710-715 AD. Other finds recovered included ?Mesolithic/Early Neolithic, Early Neolithic and Late Prehistoric worked flints, a post-medieval coin; a post-medieval writing lead point and a number of post-medieval buttons.

5 April 2010. Metal-detecting.
Found in area centred at [1]:
Middle Saxon dispersed coin hoard consisting of 43 sceattas.
The coins are in excellent condition, evidence that most were of no great age when deposited. The hoard was most likely lost or concealed about AD 710-715.

This hoard was submitted as potential Treasure (Ref: 2010 T234), along with two additional batches of coins recovered between February 2011 and October 2012 - see below.

6 April 2010. Fieldwalking.
Site of coin hoard visited by A. Rogerson (NLA). The opportunity was taken to carry out rapid and unsystematic fieldwalking of the whole field. No pottery was recovered and apart from very occasional fragments of recent tile and brick, the only finds recovered were 4 Late Prehistoric flint flakes.

5 Middle Saxon coins, all sceattas additional to dispersed hoard first discovered in April 2010.
Identified by A. Rogerson (HES). See notes and GPS coordinates in file. The GPS readings taken suggest that the reading taken for the centre of hoard in 2010 had been misread and should read [2].
These coins were submitted as potential Treasure, forming an addenda to the two larger batches recovered between April 2010 and March 2011 - see below.

November 2014. Metal-detecting.
5 Middle Saxon coins, all sceattas additional to dispersed hoard first discovered in April 2010.

These coins were submitted as potential Treasure, along with another found in the summer of 2015 -see below.

23 December 2014.
The hoard of 70 Middle Saxon sceattas recovered in three batches between April 2010 and October 2012 was submitted as potential Treasure (Ref: 2010 T234), declared treasure at inquest on 23 December 2014 and subsequently acquired by Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2018.286) [3]. The 70 coins recovered up to this date are published in (S2).
Several additional batches of coins have since been recovered, taking the total for the hoard to over 80. It is believed that these additional coins have also been acquired by the Norwich Castle Museum.
