Summary

Metal-detecting between 2011 and 2024 recovered Mesolithic/Early Neolithic and Neolithic flint blades; Roman and medieval pottery sherds; Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval jettons; post-medieval tokens and a range of other, Roman to post-medieval metal objects. These metal finds include Roman brooches; an Early/Middle Saxon buckle; a Middle/Late Saxon hooked tag; a Late Saxon disc brooch and probable Anglo-Scandinavian mount; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval signet ring, sword pommel, mount, casket key, hooked attachment from spur leather, copper alloy seal matrix and copper alloy probable ewer leg; a medieval/post-medieval copper alloy vessel fragment and post-medieval belt or harness mounts, a decorative furniture fitting, end cap from scale-tang knife and silver hawking ring or vervel.

Post-medieval silver hawking ring or vervel. The object is engraved "* Sr Hen Bedingfield", linking it with the Bedingfield family of Oxburgh Hall.

This silver vervel or ring was declared Treasure at inquest (Ref: 2018T237) and subsequently acquired by Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2019.127).
