Summary

A prehistoric perforated stone object found somewhere on the land belonging to Heygate Farm (which covers a large area to the west and southwest of Swaffham). These objects, commonly referred to as either maces or hammers, are not closely datable, having been found in both Mesolithic and later prehistoric contexts.

Fragment of stone shafthole implement with hour glass perforation found on land of Heygate Farms. See file for full description by P. Robins (NCM). The land of Heygate Farms extends to the west and south-west of Swaffham, with farm building at Town Farm (TF 79 08) and Snails Pit Farm (TF 81 07).

These objects are commonly referred to as either mace heads or hammers. The simple forms such as this example (where the hole has been created by pecking rather than drilling) are not closely datable, examples having been found in both Mesolithic and later prehistoric contexts.
