Full Description
Site surveyed in 1993 before demolition. At this stage most of the site was derelict.
It is understood that the site was built some time around 1780. Documentary evidence from directories and photographs show that the facility was steam powered from at least 1892 up to 1922 and replaced by oil until 1950 when the site had electricity installed. The mill was used to grind and store corn, seed and poultry food and well as storing coal for trade. The buildings were a mixture of clay lump and brick with tile roofing and asbestos concrete on the engine room roof. Around 1938-9 the large yard was covered over and used as a warehouse. The site is now commemorated by the road name of the housing estate built on it. "Smith's Close".
